Welcome to Mummy Miser
"Where do I begin..."
The daunting question that strikes fear into my heart every time I put my itching fingers to the keyboard of my tiny laptop.
I'm a wife. A mother. A daughter. A friend.
I try to be many a things and more often than not it just doesn't work out. Although I do find myself experienced in all sorts of bits, all fun, exciting, and engaging. None, however, are similar to the world I've most recently discovered.
Couponing.
So welcome to my addiction!
Like I said, I am a wife. I am wife to my gorgeous husband Luke who is a throws coach. Yes. Throws. As in the field part of track and field that we all forget about until the grand Olympics once every four years. He coaches at the collegiate level and is just starting out, which can be a little interesting financially. Sorry. Did I say interesting? I meant difficult.
Add a cute, spunky little one-year-old boy named Bear and you have even greater financial strain (worth it though.)
How does a young family just starting out in life make it happen?!
This past year I found myself grasping at what seemed to be hopeless endeavours just trying to contribute in some way to make our lives easier. I've always worked multiple jobs since the age of 15 you see, but I am proud to say I am now a stay-at-home mum. I love every second of being there for every moment of my baby's life. It's one thing I always knew I wanted to do, being the product of a stay-at-home mum myself. Well, not being sole provider for myself any longer I've learned a lot about trusting Jesus with the tough times and believe me, He always provides. But... we still try, right?
I did what anyone would do and tried home sales, surveys, apps; anything the internet would point to and say "hey SAHMs try this!" If you're anything like me you caught on pretty quick that spending your time doing any of this was just not for you.
Two things stuck with me this year that have successfully saved us time, stress, and yes, MONEY!
1. Minimizing
2. Couponing
Even the sound of those things lift a huge weight off this mama's shoulders. So, let me just start out by explaining my vision behind this blog and why it may be different than the others out there.
The name Dear Mummy Miser is what I came up with for a few reasons.
First, the 'dear' is so old fashioned, right? I mean who writes letters or cards anymore? This represents me in two words; 'sincere' and 'dialog.' I want genuine dialog that isn't confusing, intimidating or annoying when it comes to how to save money. Feel free to reach out to me about anything at all. I've had a few friends approach me since I've started posting on social media about the money I've been saving. Many have said the same thing, "I'll pay you to do the couponing for me." I totally get it, and obviously there is some humour behind this because I don't know how I'd efficiently do that. If you have any ideas by all means let me know and we can enter that business together. For now, I want to help those who want to save badly but just don't know where to start or need some encouragement along the way.
Next, Mummy. I am a Canadian-born, American-raised, Midwest girl living in the South. My Mama is half English and half Indian (we are talking India people) and my Daddy is a Wisconsin-raised European mixture of a man. In other words, I have a whole lot of this and that in my blood and I love it all. I can connect with all different kinds of people from all different lands and walks of life. I've seen big city living and small town life. My husband, brother and daddy (the main men in my life) would use some words like stubborn, sassy, or emotional to describe me, which I feel could be true. My lovely mum always said independent though. I'm a lot like her. Mummy is the warmest form of mother I've ever known because of that woman.
Last, Miser. Okay so the part of the definition that states 'hoards wealth' wouldn't exactly describe me. Unless of course we are talking about a different wealth. Which I will. Joy, laughter, love, precious moments, family, friends, good talks, and some peace and still. See, what makes us wealthy are the things that only come from above. Which become much more apparent when we aren't obsessing over or worrying our hearts about things like money. Save and you will stress less leaving more room for life. A wonderful life.
I began couponing two months ago, and I've loved every moment. A few things I've pursued as of late have seemed to not fall into place, leaving me with more time and energy unharnessed than I thought. Sharing my savings 'hauls' as they are called in the coupon world, will only be a part of what you'll get on this crazy blog! My hope is to share direction on saving in many different forms. My little way of contributing not just in my family's life but the lives around me. This newly discovered passion has stuck with me longer than most things and hey who knows, this may be just an open door to a brand new journey. Come along! And don't forget to write....
Sincerely, Mummy Miser
